The limestone ledges of Newton's Cove are included here because of the wealth of marine fauna that has been historically recorded over the years, their first mention are by P.H. Gosse who referred to them as Belmont Ledges. The site at Newton's Cove is one of a few UK sites where the stauromedusae, Stalked jellyfish, Depastrum cyathiforme has been found, here by P.H. Gosse in the mid-19thC.
